Rae Armantrout’s ‘Itself’

by Simon Collings

Rae Armantrout is for me one of the most interesting poets writing today. I love her sharp intelligence and her ability to say so much with so few words. Itself, her latest poetry collection, was published in February this year. The new book includes some great poetry, including a very amusing take on Shakespeare’s third sonnet –  written as a contribution to a project in which different poets were each given a sonnet to respond to. Armantrout’s ‘spin-off’ is a gem. Buy the book – you’ll see what I mean. Read my review of Itself in Stride Magazine if you want to learn more.
